Iggy Azalea Samples Nursery Rhyme In New Single "Sally Walker" And Drops Fierce Music Video

Who would’ve thought we’d be singing “Little Sally Walker” all these years later? The nursery rhyme was a favourite amongst children and included a game where players would stand around in a circle. Now, Iggy Azalea has sampled the old nursery rhyme in her addicting new track titled “Sally Walker”. She has also dropped a music video which includes cameos from James Charles, Shea Couleé, Mayhem Miller, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.

Iggy Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, has really earned her place in the rap music industry and she continues to prove herself time and time again. She’s had a bunch of various hits, namely “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX, “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora, as well as featuring on Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. She’s one of these acts that keep us all guessing, unsure of which path she’s following, and so she creates her own path when it comes to music. She is now an independent artist, releasing the music she wants, so it’s no surprise that this new single “Sally Walker” is becoming a hit for her. The song acts as the first single from her upcoming second studio album, titled In My Defense, which is bound to be epic since she had planned to drop Digital Distortion as her second studio album, but it got cancelled. We’re so excited about the new album, especially since we loved her EP release, last year, titled Survive The Summer.

This new single, “Sally Walker”, was written by Iggy Azalea and Anthony White, who is known as J. White Did It – he also acted as producer on the track. As for the music video, that was directed by Colin Tilley, who directed her music videos for “Savior” and “Kream“. As previously mentioned, the video clip includes cameos from James Charles, Shea Couleé, Mayhem Miller, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.

We can’t deny how catchy this song is, with Iggy Azalea impressing with her vocals and rap verses. Throwing a bit of shade here and there with the verses, proving she’s on top form and she’s not going to jump into all the diss tracks and replying to her haters, instead she plans to live her best life, releasing the music she loves. She also references Lil’ Duval & Snoop Dogg’s 2018 track “Smile Bitch” as well as RuPaul.

As for the music video, the opening clip sees someone playing “Sally Walker”, who walks into the street whilst looking at herself in a compact mirror, she then gets run over by Shea Couleé – to be fair we would’ve expected her to be on her phone or taking a selfie whilst walking in the street, so it’s cool that she’s being super vain looking in a compact mirror whilst crossing the road. The rest of the music video sees Sally Walker’s funeral, where Mayhem Miller hosts the funeral. James Charles and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (Miss Vanjie) attends the funeral while Iggy Azalea looks fierce with lilac hair, a look inspired by drag queens. We also see her dancing in the graveyard, which is a first; she bats out the choreography, exciting us for more dancing in the future.

The video also hints at a new song, right at the end, which is apparently titled “Started” that may or may not become a single but it definitely is a teaser for her album, which we’re sure it will appear on. We love the song and it will be one we’ll be singing loud and proud when we hear it in full.

“Sally Walker” is available to download and stream right now through Iggy Azalea’s independent record label Bad Dreams Records in connection with Empire.
